Great article! First, I’m super glad you came to join the fledgling UX CS team at Adobe Design. But I totally empathize with leaving a team you love. When I left Facebook last year, it was a really, really hard decision. I had (still have, actually!) good friends there, and the stuff I was working on was really exciting and cool.

When I was mulling over my decision to go, I asked for advice from my friend, colleague and all-around sage, Jonathon Colman. He offered a piece of career advice that’s the best I’ve ever gotten:

Think about what this position can offer you that you aren’t getting now. Facebook’s a big place and is full of opportunity. If this is something you can get in your current job, stay! If you can’t, it seems like it’s worth considering.

For me, I really loved the idea of being part of something new and grassroots. Facebook has a content strategy practice that’s almost a decade old, and has dozens and dozens of content strategists. While that team is world-class and delightful to work with, they’ve started that up.

And even though Adobe is a massive, old tech company, a real UX content strategy practice was brand new. It’s ambiguous, squishy, and ever-changing. And while I miss my old coworkers immensely, I’m really excited to blaze this trail with you and Marisa!
